Well it turns out that a year has made a big difference with this place. If you set aside the regular menu and look at their specials there's actually really good food coming out of this kitchen.
We saw no problems with service.

Just got takeout. The lady over the phone taking my order & that took my money was rude and not customer friendly at all. Then I bring the food home and it's literally the smallest portions I've ever seen for a Mexican restaurant. Even the rice and beans was tiny. Our nachos were extremely small. Usually myself and my 2 kids share nachos at Mexican restaurants... these nachos we literally each got a couple chips. It was that small. (For $10) and it didn't have anything besides meat and cheese. I thought maybe I bought the wrong nachos, but we were charged for the nachos that I thought I ordered that had "the works" on it. The chips and salsa came with only super spicy Salsa. Normally there is a not spicy salsa option. Only good things were the deep fried ice cream and burrito were decent. Very disappointed, especially after hearing multiple people say it was a great place. May give it another try and eat in.

This was our second time here (sometimes you have a bad day). The food was mediocre and the service was just about the worst I have ever had. Our waiter walked by our table at least 5 or 6 times after someone else delivered our food and never asked if we needed anything or how the food even was. We will not return.

The food here was very bland. Unable to even spice up with the salsa. Just no flavor. The chimichanga was no different than a burrito as it was not deep fried and crunchy. I used to love Xtapa but have to honestly say I won't go again.
